Bekkal Fort is one among the ancient and biggest forts left in Kerala. This beautiful fort with mesmerizing views is spread over 40 acres. The fort overlooks the mighty Arabian sea on one side. Tourists visit this place to explore the beauty of fort and to experience sunset from the fort.
You may plan your visit between 8AM – 6PM. It can be visited in the early morning ( when it opens) or better still in the evening just an hour or 2 before sunset. Photography and videography allowed but tripods or other photography equipment's other than camera are not permitted.

Best time to visit Bekkal fort
Fort and surrounding areas are well preserved and it is neat and clean. It is one of the best maintained historical places in Kerala, it has good amount of parking space, clean toilets and well maintained parks for kids. The best time to visit the fort is just after the rains say in the month of August, when the grass is a lush green with the amazing grey clouds. You can spent 2 to 3 Hours here. There is a beautiful long beach and walking area through the side of fort.

Bekkal fort will be a great treat for all history lovers and students. Please carry enough water with you while exploring the fort as there is long walk and noon time will be too hot there. it is a good place for family outing, photo and video shoots.



Who built Bekkal fort
Fort is believed to be built by Ikkeri Shivappa Nayaka of Ikkeri nayak dynasty between AD 1625 and 1670. Ikkeri nayak dynasty (Nayakas of Keladi) were an Indian dynasty based from Keladi in Shimoga district, Karnataka, India. They were an important ruling dynasty in post-medieval Karnataka. They ruled coastal regions of Karnataka, and parts of northern Kerala, Malabar and the central plains along the Tungabhadra river.

Bekkal fort is situated 1/2 km west from Bekkal hills in pallikkara panchayat along the Kanhangad coastal highway of Kasargod district in Kerala, India.
Fort is 16 kms away from Kasarkode and 12 kms away from Kanhangad.
Mangalore, about 50 km from Kasaragod, is the nearest airport
Kasaragod, about 16 km, is the nearest railway station.
